Homestay Provider

Many New Zealand families welcome the opportunity to have international students living with them.

Homestay students can provide everybody in the household with a taste of a new culture and can be a fun and rewarding experience. Students will become a part of your family, participating and contributing to family life. Homestay families are also valuable in providing frequent conversational English practice.

At Auckland Institute of Studies, our Homestay Providers must comply with the NZ Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students - click here for further info. Our Homestay Providers can be families with young children or teenagers, single people, and couples who work or are retired. Families should have a genuine interest in learning about other cultures, have enough time for appropriate supervision and regular interaction and be willing to provide our students with opportunities to discover and experience our culture first hand.

We have international students who require long term homestay placement as well as students who come to New Zealand for short courses and require placement for a few days to a few weeks only. Homestay families will receive a weekly payment to cover expenses. We will support you and the student to make sure that it is a positive experience for everyone involved.

Disclaimer: At present, AIS’ own homestay services are on hold, but we have partnered with Host Families New Zealand to provide homestay accommodation that will match with approved host families. You can speak to the AIS Marketing Staff to apply for homestay arrangements with Host Families New Zealand.

If you are interested in becoming a Homestay Provider for Auckland Institute of Studies, please download a Homestay Application Pack above.

Once you have read, completed and signed a Homestay Application Questionnaire and Police Vetting Consent Form (we require a Police vetting form for all members of your household aged 18 years and over), please return to us by email or post. Ensure a copy of a passport and/or driver’s licence is attached to every Police Vetting Consent Form.

After the above paperwork is received, a home assessment will be carried out. Following this, if the police vetting results are favourable and AIS is satisfied with your application, you will be advised of confirmation of your acceptance as an AIS homestay provider and you will be sent a Homestay Contract to sign.

Thank you.
